while destroy is somewhat always thought off as a negative term, destroy also is a great enlightening word. Emotional connection ,and now also read more on this. Well, the urge to destroy is also a part of your creative healing process.
Confused with the urge to destroy my artworks, did this so many times over the past three years.
It all began with feng shuii of clutter clearing and then the urge took over. The obsessive thoughts continued suddenly making those precious bits of paper worthless! What was once so close to my heart..it pained a lot to let go. Its not easy but it was required for the progress of the artist within me.
All growth is only possible when you create space for new. Old art takes place in your studio and your mind. Even if you wish you cannot make much progress and theses feelings spread in general to your overall life, spreading the feeling of stiffling and restrictions.
This is a very important decision for each one of us. No matter what profession you are in, think about this. Check your cupboard, your work space , your home office. Are you clinging to too many old projects that have not much space left for new ones to enter. Organize, clutter clear and purify your space and see the magic of the Universe!
What to destroy?
1) old objects not used since past many years(can give as charity if they are in good condition)
2)Old clothes(again give in charity)
3)Old paintings (no, I don't give my art for free! make collages or destroy! )
4)Office documents that no longer serve purpose and will never be required. You can save them as soft copy for records.
5) Dead plants, yes, do not smile please.I have seen many homes with old plant containment with dead plants, for years they are kept in homes, not even throwing them or not even replacing the plants!

6)old relationships, past failures, break ups, negative experiences, now I know its difficult but once you learn it you will feel much lighter.
7) Thoughts..ever wondered why you are not progressing? The continues training that you have got since childhood limiting beliefs. Difficult? learn, you can learn to change this.

what are the emotions?there is obsession and strong energy thoughts to somehow remove these so many, thousands of obsessively painted small paintings(yet, I have so many remaining!)
In the last year I did think of making collages and made cubism collages 19x19 inches of small cubism abstracts.
Now so many, so letting go of these...three times this year 2018, did clutter clearing of my studio art.
Tearing sounds did give a sense of relief, destroying is also a creative urge of artist. It was a conscious effort, with intentions of freeing myself and my brain of the past art and welcoming new ideas. Each paper as it was torn with force did bring me closer to freedom, somewhat freedom. The act of tearing art did make it clear to the Universe. Burning art, was another experience (please do not do this in confined spaces of your studio, I did this on my open terrace garden) as I observed the flames take up engulfing each bit of art..that which was once made from my heart and had given me immense happiness and sense of achievement...that which I had arranged as collections since year 2000, labelled them..each had a name and identity of their own...were now ashes...that is coming to reality...beginning fresh collections continuing to outpour my expressions with energy healing art, symbols.
Somehow they will love me and my art...for the things that have destroyed me have been blessings in disguise.
Those that have chaos within also have been given the ability to bring peace.
My intentions here was to let go of that which no longer served any purpose in my future. Many precious oil paintings remain adorning my walls, bringing a smile with their pure energy.
There is nothing else related for me to the word destroy,
except to destroy ones ego, inner chaos top redirect my life and become a healthy individual. And trust me, once you take the first step of clutter clearing you will see mystical things unfold.
To recreate yourself...to rise from your ashes...you have to first destroy yourself!

Yes I Tore Them! Its Between me and The Universe! 
The charm of old paper and old art. The nostalgia after tearing so many old paintings, burning them. Yes I tore Them! these precious ones. This is so necessary for progress and moving ahead. Especially clarity comes only after you remove some clutter, yes, hard to accept, but the artworks that are not sold or framed in any home, are actually taking space. Of course I have wrapped and saved a few precious paintings even way back from year 2000. Few Framed in wood paintings are with me, the ones that were hard to store or preserve, i had to let them go...this is a Feng Shuii ritual for clutter clearing, organized my artworks, yet there are thousands, (Obsessed is not a term it is a way of life, so even small papers have these colours, images, symbols, they are really pretty unique, but have to let them go...)stored them in digital form, as precious memories of my journey since the past 17 years with making art.Burned them, the fire of purification, the ritual really is Awesum and the whole ritual of tearing manually, burning old art is a strong message to my brain and the Universe to move ahead! 
letting go of old art to make way for new. more than 10,000 hours of making art, prioritizing savings for buying art materials, continuing making art...passionately painting since year 2000,...more than 10,000 moments spent with canvasses and paper than being with family ...I have more bird and plant friends than humans! Feng shuii clutter clearing...no doubt each piece is precious...each artworks has a part of me...and it died slowly...as I tore each artwork...I tried to save many but space crunches ...many canvasses are recycled and repainted... some old paper works are used in collages. Damaged artworks and some really close to my heart spiritual cubism abstracts of year 2003, and 2005, ...I have them stored in digital format. these memories will surely bring a tear in my eye later on...but today it was necessary for my progress...did that...its gone...!

Marinate, to soak in, to absorb, to blend together, well, the term marinate is usually associated with food, cooking. How the juices are released, how the herbs and spices blend, the concoction of dripping sauces, WOW! The more time given to marinate...the better the dish turns out! We know!
